Private In-home Piano and Guitar Lessons in

Anyone can have fun learning instruments with their favourite songs.

I’ve played music for over 15 years (including stints running a sheet music transcription service and performing for weddings, both of which inform my approach) and had over a dozen teachers in my life, and I think that exposure to multiple perspectives is what I want for my students too. What then is the approach I can offer in a 1-3 year timeline?

Everyone can learn the simple parts making up music from a place of joy and play.

My time playing for weddings gave me the chance to choose and perform virtually any music I wanted to and have fun doing it, and I saw that anyone could learn to do their version of that, having fun arranging and performing their favourite music, and if you love what you play, you never need to practice a day in your life.

Just like anyone with a taste for their favourite food can learn to cook, anyone with an ear for their favourite songs can learn to play along, express themselves, and have fun losing themselves to the flow

Too many people, including many of my student’s parents, have a negative experience with traditional approaches to lessons that progress along levels like karate belts, putting theoretical and technical learning outcomes and instrumental and classical repertoire before exploring student’s natural interests, which are often naturally directed towards more contemporary and popular music with vocals.

Music is not a sport, it’s art, and I want to offer lessons from the perspective of an artist and creative, not an athlete or sports coach.

You don’t need to drill scales and exercises and you don't need to acquire a taste for classical or instrumental music before you start having fun.

You can learn anything bar by bar, part by part, as slowly as needed to play it confidently and then ramping up the speed through repetition, but coming from a place of enjoyment, playing along with clicks and tracks and jamming together. We are artists enjoying losing ourselves to art, and I want to cover the full breadth of musicianship beyond just being a guitar or piano player, and that includes introductions to the joy of not just practice and performance, but connecting with others jamming and improvising, originally composition and songwriting, and even production and recording. The simple building blocks are accesible for everyone!

I provide custom-arranged sheet music for a personalized repertoire made just for you and your difficulty level.
